So much fun comes from finally seeing the true color of a plant you picked out at the garden center.
I planted this Clematis ‘Guernsey Cream’ last summer and have been waiting for the bloom to arrive. Having grown-up on a farm, I had my own idea of what the color ‘Guernsey Cream’ would be, but you never know. Well, this one did not disappoint.
Rich, delicious, creamy white and lush-petaled, it emerged nearly yellow, but soon blanched to this lovely flower.
I got my ‘Guernsey Cream’ at Tangletown Gardens in south Minneapolis. I love Tangletown for many reasons, but especially for clematis because they carry the little potted varieties. Many times you can only find gallon sized containers of clematis and I have always found that once planted, the small ones will soon catch up to the big ones. No reason to splurge on the biggest available.
Clematis love full sun, but cool roots. They like a rich, organic base from which to grow, so incorporate compost into your planting hole. Explore the countless varieties.
